March 25th: Literary Thursdays at Queen’s Library
Marisa Meltzer layers the story of Weight Watchers founder Jean Nidetch with her own lifelong journey through various fad diets in her book “This Is Big: How the Founder of Weight Watchers Changed the World -- and Me.” Join us for a look at Jean’s remarkable but little-known life in business and growth as a weight loss maven and insight into America's obsession with thinness.

Thursdays in March: Valley of the Dolls Seminar
Valley of the Dolls tells the coming of age of three young women or, perhaps we should say three classic archetypes: a brain, a beauty, and a talent. Over four Zoom sessions, we’ll explore the lives, loves, and choices of Anne, Jennifer, and Neely while also discussing whether Valley is underrated as a story about postwar women’s lives. If you’re reading it for the first time, it’s a page-turner, but it also warrants rereading, especially thinking about its author and characters in the age of Instagram, Sex and the City, and reality TV.
Thursdays in March via Zoom, beginning on March 4th. 7:00pm to 8:00pm.
